In “International Nude Beach Evaluation”, Spanking FIT presented an in-depth review of communism’s most famous nude beach Cuba, Cayo Largo del Sur or in English, “the long southern key”. Although there are a number of Cuban locations where one may sunbathe nude (Playa Nudista Cuba), we initially selected Cayo Largo because there’s a greater opportunity to do so here. Also, Cayo Largo has better traveler accessibility. It was also rumored to have been a favorite with the late dictator Fidel Castro who passed away during our trip. On the way to Cayo Largo, we paid a visit to Cuba’s capital, Havana and found it magnifico.
Recently we visited Playa Nudista Cuba, Mi Cayita which is among the Playas del Este located approximately 15 miles northeast of Havanna. It is famous for its warm, calm waters and white sandy beaches. It also is listed among “the best gay nude vacation spots” by https://twobadtourists.com/. I brought a lady friend by the name of Erica along as my guide and translator (my Spanish regrettably is rudimentary only). During our visit to Mi Cavita, we met a retired gay masseur and fitness trainer by the name of Alejandro Eduardo. Alejandro was on holiday visiting from Spain. Dr. Garrett: Thank you for arranging to meet us at the Sol Cayo Santa Maria where you presently stay. I understand that it was the very first hotel built on Cayo Santa Maria.
Alejandro: Si, the very first.
Dr. Garrett: Have you stayed here before, Alejandro?
Alejandro: Many times. In fact, I first stayed soon after it opened in 2,002. I was involved in the discussions with hotel management regarding the establishment of the Area La Playa Nudista which you will see today is just west of the hotel.
Dr. Garrett: Congratulations on the success of your mission. Has the presence of other more recently developed resorts such as the Melia Buenavista detracted from the naturist beach experience in your opinion?
Alejandro: Not at all. Playa Nudista is part of Playa Canon which is approximately 2.8 km wide. There’s plenty of room for naturists all over Cuba and all over the planet.
Dr. Garrett: Since relations between the U.K. and Cuba have not been the greatest in recent years, do you find a shortage of English-speaking visitors to Playa Nudista?
Alejandro: Area de Playa Nudista is popular with Germans who know English and with lots and lots of Canadians who come here to escape their punishing winters up north.
Dr. Garrett: What about so-called “Americans” or persons of U.S. nationality?
Alejandro: Not as many. Relations between the U.S. and Cuba have frozen lately. Also, the few Americans who come often still take a Puritanical attitude toward naturism and prefer to keep their uncomfortable swimsuits on.
Dr. Garrett: Alright Alejandro, I guess it’s off to Playa Nudista. One more question before we set out. Is total nudity a requirement as it often is at nudist resorts?
Alejandro: No. Playa Nudista is clothing-optional, not nudity manda.
We approached Playa Canon from a long wooden walkway and a short walk on the beach. Soon we could see several naked beach goers frolicking on the sand and enjoying the warm ocean waters. We knew we had arrived at the Area dePlaya Nudista. Much to our surprise there were no lifeguards on duty, no restrooms, and no surfers. There were, however, several thatched roof sun shelters called palapas, lounges and even beach attendants ready to serve us drinks. The attendants were clothed. We made our way to one of the empty shelters to leave our belongings and cloths behind. When fully undressed, a strikingly handsome young waiter by the name of Alfonso approached us. With a smile, he asked to take our order. Alejandro who is “gay” responded by asking Alfonso to also please strip and give him a massage. Alfonso continued smiling and said that he would return later to fill the order after we had visited the beach. It was apparent that Alejandro and Alfonso already knew one another from the hotel.
Not too long afterward we found a spot on the Playa Nudista to lay our towels down and soak up the rays of the intense Carribean sun. Not being advocates of sunscreen, we stayed sun-exposed for a short interval only until returning to the comfort of our palapas lounge chairs and our waiter Alfonso who brought us cooling drinks.
